Where do I get a
49er ID Card?
Entering freshmen and transfer students will receive a 49er ID Card during SOAR. Others can obtain a card in the ID office located on the second floor of Cone University Center across from Main Street Market, or in the 49er card office behind the bookstore. You will be reqired to present a photo ID and a university document stating your ID number. Questions may be answered by calling 704-687-7337.

All Students, Faculty, and Staff need to have a 49er ID Card.
What is it used
for?
Students
The 49er ID Card proves that you are a member of the campus community and
entitled to certain services. It is required to check out materials form the
Atkins Library. It is required to obtain services at the Student Health Center.
It is required to utilize the facilities in the Belk Gymnasium and the Student
Activities Center. The 49er ID Card is an important tool that allows you to access
your residence, some classrooms, labs and buildings; obtain meals, and make
purchases wherever the 49er Account is accepted. The 49er Account is accepted in
vending, machines, the Copy Center, The Candy Shoppe at Cone University Center,
the Game Room at the Student Activity Center, washer/dryers in Resident laundry
rooms, and the Bookstore. It is the required payment for personal copies and
printing on campus.
Faculty/Staff
The 49er ID Card proves that you, too, are a member of the campus community and
are entitled to certain services. It is required to check out materials from the
Atkins Library. If you purchase a membership to the Student Activities Center,
it is required to utilize the facilities. The 49er ID Card is required to obtain
access to some buildings, classrooms, and labs. When an Optional Dining Account
is added to it, it becomes an important tool that allows you to pay for meal in
the campus dining facilities. When a 49er Account is added, you make purchases
from vending, machines, the Copy Center, The Candy Shoppe at Cone University
Center, the Game Room at the SAC and the Bookstore. It is the required payment
for personal copies and printing on campus.
What is the 49er
Account?
The 49er account is a type of debit account that exists on your 49er ID card.
With 49er Account money on your card, you won't have to carry cash, credit cards
or checks to buy things on campus. When you get to any of the over 100 locations
on campus where your 49er Account is accepted, all you have to do is present it.
Deposits to this account can be made at the ID Office in the Cone Center, the
Meal Plans and 49er Card Office in the Auxiliary Services Building, any
VTS machine (cash only), or by using
49er Card Online.
As a
visitor, how do I make copies and print from the Library's computers which both
require a 49er Account for payment?
Visitors may purchase a 49er Visitor Card from the VTS machines located in the Info Commons (1st floor) and the copier area (2nd
floor). The machine will deduct fifty cents (.50) from the value when you
purchase it, but it is reusable. You may add as much value as you need now or
on each subsequent visit. NOTE! The VTS machines do not give change.
The 49er Visitor Card may be used anywhere the 49er
Account is accepted. It may be used for purchases from the Copy Center,
vending machines, the Bookstore, the Cone Center Candy Counter, the Game Room in
the SAC and dining facilities.
You may also have copies made without
purchasing a visitor card by using the UNC
Charlotte Document Center on the 2nd Floor of the Atkins Library. The hours are as
follows: UNC Charlotte Document Center's normal operating hours of 8 am to 8 pm,
Monday through Friday, 2 pm to 6 pm, Saturday, & 2 pm to 6 pm, Sunday.
I have an
Optional Dining Account (ODA). Will that work in the Library for copies
and prints?
No. The Optional Dining Account can only be used in dining facilities and the two
convenience stores on campus. As a meal plan, it will save you the 8.25% sales tax on prepared food. The 49er Account
is a debit account used in place of cash and is totally separate.
Where can I
spend money deposited in my 49er Account?
The 49er Account is required payment for copies
and prints. The 49er Account may be used to make purchases at the Bookstore,
the Cone Center Candy Counter, the Game Room in the SAC, and for Parking and
Library fines. The campus
vending machines and washer/dryers accept the 49er Account as payment. You may
even use the 49er Account in all dining facilities and the two convenience
stores on campus. NOTE! You will pay 8.25% sales tax when using the 49er account in
dining facilities as this account is considered a cash payment and not a meal
plan. To avoid paying the tax, you may use an optional dining account to
make purchases at dining facilities on campus [Make

How do I set up a 49er Account?
The 49er Account is already on
your UNC Charlotte 49er ID card. All you have to do is to deposit money to it.
Where do I
make deposits to my 49er Account?
There are THREE ways to add money to your
account.
- VTS MACHINES take $1, $5, $10, and $20 dollar
bills. The machines do not give change. There are four machines on campus.
There are two machines in the Atkins Library; one in the 1st floor Info
Commons; one in the 2nd floor copier area. There is one machine in the
Barnard Computer Commons, and one machine in the Residence Dining Hall.
- THE 49ER CARD OFFICE located in room 175 of
the Auxiliary Services building and the ID Office located in the Cone Center
are equipped to take cash, checks, and credit
cards. These offices are open 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Will the
49er Card Office do automatic drafts from my credit card or checking account?
No. The 49er Card Office is required to obtain
an authorization signature each time they send a charge through.
If I use my
credit card to put money into my 49er Account, will the amount be classified as
a
purchase or a cash advance by my card company?
All credit card deposits accepted for the 49er
Account are classified as purchases.
Will I get
a monthly statement on my 49er Account?
No. If you need a detailed
statement of transactions, you may request one from the 49er Card Office at any
time. Any copier reader will show you your balance. Your balance is
also present on any receipt from the Bookstore and dining facilities. You may
also obtain a balance from any of the 4 VTS machines. The cardholder is
responsible for observing the transaction debited at the point and time of sale
and for monitoring his/her own account.
How can I protect my accounts?
Your 49er ID Card is an important tool that allows you to access your residence,
obtain meals, and make purchases where ever the 49er Account is accepted. It is
vital that you know where it is at all times. Should you loose your card or
suspect it has been stolen, time is of the essence. Report lost or stolen cards
to the ID Office at 704-687-2216 during normal business hours of 8 am to 5 pm,
Monday through Friday. After business hours, contact your RA or the Campus
Police. You can also protect your accounts by suspending activity on your card
from 49er Card Online at
any time.
There is a $10.00 replacement fee for each lost, stolen, or damaged 49er ID Card.
Replacement cards are made in the ID Office during regular business hours. You
bear sole responsibility for any funds spent between the time the card was lost
or stolen and the time you report it.
What if I
lose my card?
You should suspend the use of your card online
as soon as possible using 49er Card Online at
https://uncc49ercard.blackboard.com.
Report a lost or stolen card immediately either
in person or by telephone to the ID Office (704-687-2492) during normal
business hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. If after hours, report the lost or stolen card to your RA or
the Campus Police. When a card is lost or stolen, the account balance cannot be
protected until the card is reported.
